Virginia Tech 48, Boston College 22: And then there was no path

Thomas Castellanos was intercepted on the very first play of the game.

The rest of the game would look much like that. And after the first drive of the second half, it was 38-7.

The Path ended Saturday afternoon when Boston College was handled by Virginia Tech, 48-22. The Hokies jumped out to a lead and never looked back.

Castellanos' interception led to a Hokies field goal on their opening drive, and BC would actually grab the lead on the next drive. Alex Broome followed up a 36-yard run with a four-yard run into the end zone to give the Eagles a 7-3 lead, and BC's defense would then force a three-and-out and get the ball right back.

That's when things went downhill, though. Castellanos was intercepted two plays into the next drive and for the next 22 minutes of play, VT grabbed four touchdowns on four consecutive drives with BC having no answer. The Hokies went into the half up 31-7 and they got the ball back to start the second half, which they would then make it 38-7.

The Eagles finally answered back with a touchdown, as Castellanos connected with Jaedn Skeete for his first career collegiate score -- and they later picked up consolation points with Xavier Coleman punching in a one-yard touchdown run, which was his first score of the season.

Castellanos finished the day 10-of-20 through the air with just 110 yards and two picks while rushing for 46 yards on 11 tries. Jeremiah Franklin was the team's leading receiver with three receptions for 52 yards.

BC looks to rebound on a short week as they travel to Pittsburgh on Thursday.
