Boston College 3, Denver 4: Penalties aren't helpful

No. 3 Boston College hosted No. 2 Denver in front of a sold-out Conte Forum Saturday, falling 4-3 with a late goal-putting the Pioneers past the Eagles.

Goals from Will Smith and Oskar Jellvik had the Eagles up 2-1 after two periods, but Denver tied it early in the third before a power-play goal put the Pioneers up 3-2. Smith one-timed one with six and a half minutes to go in the period, with it bouncing off of a Denver defender and in to tie it at 3-3.

Boston College would spend some time on the PK after that, though. Jack Malone went to the box and six seconds after that penalty was killed, Cutter Gauthier went to the box for roughing. Denver would take the 4-3 lead on that power play, and BC was unable to grab an equalizer.

BC took six penalties total, while shots-on-goal were 28-27 in a very evenly-matched affair. BC also blocked 20 shots and went 36-of-74 at the faceoff dot.
